When the children were monsters

Speed reading — your brain fills in the rest

Angels and humans were never supposed to mix. But they did. And their children were not normal children. The book calls them the Nephilim. In plain terms: giants.

These weren't gentle giants. The book describes them as enormous, endlessly hungry, and violent. They ate through everything humans had. When the food ran out, they turned on people, and then on each other. The whole world filled up with fear and blood.

So picture the scene the book is painting: forbidden knowledge spreading everywhere, weapons in everyone's hands, and giant half-angel monsters roaming the earth. Humanity is drowning. The planet itself starts to groan under the weight of it.

Revelation

And here's a detail that echoes all the way into today's ghost stories and horror movies. The book says that when the giants finally died, their spirits didn't leave. Because they were half-spirit already, their ghosts stayed on the earth — restless, homeless, and hungry. In the Book of Enoch, this is where evil spirits come from.

That's a huge idea hiding in an old book. A lot of later thinking about demons and unclean spirits traces right back to this: they're the leftover ghosts of the giants, still wandering.

◆ Practice

The world cries out

3 min
  1. 1Close your eyes and picture a world that has completely lost control — no wisdom left, only power and hunger.
  2. 2The book says the earth itself 'cried out' at what was happening on it.
  3. 3Sit with that image for a moment. Because in the next lesson, someone finally hears the cry.
