The Pharmakon
SACRED MEDICINE AND THE FEMININE HEALING LINEAGE
The Pharmakon is the fourth course of The Threshold. It is a study of history and symbol, of the ancient world where medicine, ritual, and the sacred were one single art. The Greek word pharmakon meant both poison and cure — because the difference was never the substance itself, only the dose, the timing, and the knowledge of the person who prepared it. Across ten lessons you will follow the figure of the healer-priestess from Isis to the demonized 'witch,' recover the real history of women as the first pharmacists, look at theriac and the ancient science of antidotes, and take an honest look at the disputed scholarship on sacred medicine in the mystery traditions. This is education in history and symbol, not a manual. Nothing here is a recipe. The substances discussed are dangerous, often illegal, and not the point — the point is a lost understanding of healing as a sacred, and largely female, art.
