In the middle of the Book of Enoch, there's a section full of visions, and it introduces a mysterious figure. The book calls him different names: the Chosen One, the Elect One, and — this is the important one — the Son of Man.
In these visions, the Son of Man is a heavenly figure who was chosen before the world even began. He's kept hidden with God, waiting. And one day he'll be revealed to judge the world with perfect fairness — lifting up the good and humble, and bringing down the proud and cruel.
Now, why does that matter so much? Because 'Son of Man' is the exact title Jesus uses for himself over and over in the Gospels. When people in the ancient world heard 'Son of Man,' many of them already had a picture in their heads — and part of that picture came from ideas floating around in books like Enoch.
So even if you never treat this book as scripture, it's a treasure map of ideas: angels, judgment, a coming Chosen One. Ideas that shaped how millions of people have understood good, evil, and the end of the story ever since.
