You have questioned almost everything. Your beliefs. Your relationships. Your career. Your government. But there is one thing you have never really looked at, because it is the lens you look through for everything else: the idea that you are your mind. That the voice reading this sentence is you. That the flow of thoughts, memories, and comments running behind your eyes is who you are.
Try this. Notice your next thought. Not what the thought says. The fact that you noticed it. Something saw that thought. Something watched it show up and pass. Whatever that something is, it cannot be the thought, because it was watching the thought. The watcher is never the thing it watches. That is the crack in the wall, and this whole course pours through it.
You are not one thing. You are three things mistaken for one self. There is the body: sensation, hunger, the animal you live in. There is the mind: thought, memory, imagination, the voice that narrates. And there is awareness: the quiet space where body and mind both show up. Most people spend their whole lives glued to the first two, pulled between the body's cravings and the mind's noise, never once guessing there is a third thing watching all of it. That third thing is what the old traditions called the soul, the witness, the Self. It is what you are.
